Valentine Love Box
What better way to make a statement on Valentine’s Day than by
decoupaging your own "Valentine Love Box"? Here’s a perfect container
for carrying valentines to school; afterwards, it can hold jewelry,
baseball cards, etc., at home. Kids will love to decorate this box with
all their favorite things. Just collecting the items—from cutting photos
out of magazines to raiding Mom’s sewing kit—is half the fun. You can
also use the box to carry our unusual
Valentine Nuts. |

|
Create your own box from any of the techniques and ideas below.
1. | Spray-paint the outside
of a 9.5-ounce Ziploc® Container (or other box) in a red color. |
2. | Look through magazines to
cut out images of clothes, people, flowers, etc., that most describe
you. |
3. | Cut out sentences or
headlines that grab your attention. |
4. | Make color copies of
favorite photos (family, friends, vacations) and cut out. |
5. | For a lace effect, cut
edges from lace doilies or use small doilies whole. |
6. | Beginning with larger
images, spray the wrong side with temporary spray adhesive and
arrange around outsides of container and lid. |
7. | When satisfied with
placement, use a 1" flat paintbrush to paint the wrong side of the
images and the desired place on container with gloss acrylic
polyurethane. |
8. | Put images in place,
smoothing out wrinkles and bubbles with your finger. |
9. | Keep building up layers,
being careful to let polyurethane dry in between. Be careful to not
tear images by rubbing too much. |
10. | Paint container with
coats of polyurethane in between layers of images. Use the smallest
images and smaller word statements last. |
11. | Let dry for 24 hours. |
12. | Use tacky glue to glue
on small, flat heart buttons, jewels, ribbon roses, appliqués, or
other items. |
13. | Cut pieces of velvet to
fit inside container. Leave top lip free of velvet so container and
lid will shut properly. Spray wrong side of fabric with permanent
spray adhesive and smooth in place. |
14. | Cut a ribbon rose trim
to fit around top edge of velvet and glue in place. |
